LOW WATER on the White and Norfork today. And we thought it would never happen.
WHITE RIVER: Generation on the White was shut down at 11pm Wednesday night for 5 hours, creating a nice window of low waters for waders in the right place to take advantage. We wouldn’t be surprised with relatively mild temperatures the next few days if more windows open up through the weekend, before cooler weather comes in for the new week.
We would love to be more precise with the predictions but the SWPA Generation Schedule site was so far out of kilter today it wasn’t funny. The prediction actually had Bull Shoals being off through the middle of the day. The situation is fairly fluid it seems, it would not be hard to imagine low water in the middle of the day if the weather was as nice as it was today. Gorgeous day to be on the river. Stay close keep an ear and eye on the water conditions and be prepared to take advantage of these windows is the order of the day.
On the plus side if you make a run to the area, even on the higher flows currently there are still wading opportunities at Rim Shoals, Wildcat for those with access and other places.
For your fly boxes we would definatly be packing eggs. We have new shipments of Unreal Eggs (our favorite low water pattern for this time of year), Veiled Eggs for the faster runs, and standard eggs in the bins.
The Journal fished with Clint on Sunday, a short exploratory run on lowish water, and Clint was doing well at Wildcat on his black Tungsten Midge. We have also heard good reports on Ruby Midges, and we’d expect Davy’s White tail Red and Bloodworm midges to be killer as well.
NORFORK: Contrary to the generation schedule Norfork went offline at 10am this morning, opening the way for a fun day on the Princess of Tailwaters. Unfortunately we were sitting here writing the Journal, normally a fun task but with low water we were a little distracted.
