I LOVE getting emails like this one from David Testerman from Georgia, laden with pics of this handsome 23.5″ brown caught last weekend.
It just makes your day when people come to the White and have a hoot, especially on the higher flows. None of the guys I know in the biz work in fly shops for extra fishing time: sitting in a shop watching other people head out on the water when you know its firing can be a mixed pleasure. Chad and the Journal still do our 40+ hours a week hard labor, just we are lucky enough to live here on the White and get in as much fishing as we can in our time off.
No the buzz from working in a fly shop comes from sharing your waters and passion with people, helping visitors or locals get dialled into the same sorts of fun we enjoy. Like the streamer action we have been preaching about for the last year. Chad got David and his father set up last weekend and they banged them. But read David’s report and checkout the pics. Thanks for putting some big grins on our faces too David
Steve,
Sorry to have missed you while up. We had the pleasure to meet Chad but I think we missed you both times we stopped in. We had a wonderful 4 days of fishing and caught a lot of fish. I primarily fished streamers the whole time and caught the one attached last Sat. He was 23.5″ long. He was thick across the back but not real fat so I would guess 5- 5 1/2 pounds or so?
Fought like a champ! Pictures do not capture how pretty he was. The fly in his mouth is a big 6″ long tan and olive Conrad Sculpin which got all the big bites this trip.
My dad lost one right after I landed this one that was the largest trout I have ever seen. Had to have been well over 30″ and I won’t even guess the weight. Also had one other 20-21″ brown come off as well at the boat as well as landed a couple more 15-16″ browns. Lot’s of big ones following and taking swipes as well so lots of excitement.
Caught at least 20 fish one morning from 14-18 inches mainly rainbows with one 16″ cutthroat all on big streamers. I had my kids (5 and 7) with me so we could never get the real early start we needed and never fished the evenings so for the limited prime times we fished it was spectacular.
We will be back and next time hope to meet you. Take care and great shop you guys have. Keep up the good work!
