THREE things making giving Oklahoma City touch of cool. Holly Hunter and the TNT series Saving Grace; the Bricktown redevelopment, and Ward Wulf’s Okie Angler Blog.
Ive done a bunch of trips over to OKC in past 5 years, many of them trying to take fly fishing to our Okie bretheren and there have been some “interesting times” including getting iced into a Comfort Inn with a marriage disintegrating around my ears. But I’ve had some good times too, once I got out off the interstate motels and dove into the restaurant and entertainment district at Bricktown. Good eats, good music and good times.
But Ward Wulf’s blog was a revelation too: w stumbled across a few weeks ago but its taken us a while to work it into the Journal.
Ward chronicles the trial and tribulations of fly fishers living far from the sweetwater, including run-ins with bow toting carp hunters. But how can you not admire the commitment of a guy whose goals this summer include:
- Catch a Gar
- Develop some all around rough fishin’ skills.
- Fish more moving water.
- Find and catch at least one species of Redhorse
- Find and catch at least one species of Buffalo
- Find and catch a Drum
A look into the life of a browliner in Oklahoma City. And the Dude just got engaged, definately work a look.
Thanks for the kind words!!
I’m glad you appreciated the goals… I’m afraid most around here just think I’m crazy!
Next time you’re around you’ll have to check out the downtown brownlining oppurtunities.
